After crossing the Khangsar Khola, we reach Khangsar and head towards the village region, still very traditionally Tibetan and known as the Last Village of Nepal.
Tilicho Base Camp
We continue from Khangsar on a large path, passing a Gompa (monastery). The route ahead goes on a recently constructed path up toward a high ridge.
At one point there is an intersection. One path maintains the altitude, traversing the slopes towards a place where the valley is narrow; the other continues to ascend towards the line of the ridge. The former is the old path and is much more difficult as it goes on really steep; the latter is the new path that goes a completely different way.
We continue along the new path, reach a high crest, and descend on carved-out through slopes to the sides of the main valley. At its bottom is a brook. On the other side of it is a building known as the Tilicho Base Camp at an elevation of 4,150 m.
Tilicho Lake
Our journey starts early in the morning at around 6 am as we try to avoid the wind. From the Base camp to the Tilicho lake takes another 3-4 hours. Tilicho Lake is a cold barren place in the afternoon and is the highest located lake of the world.
After we spend some time around Tilicho Lake, we will return the same way back to Base Camp as there are no accommodation facilities at Tilicho Lake area.
Yak Kharka
Continuing on from Manang, the trail ascends to Yak Kharka. We make the climb steadily through Tenki Manang, leaving the Marsyangdi Valley. Continuing along the Jarsang Khola Valley, we reach Yak Kharka at 4,050 m. Herds of yaks and vegetations appear to thin out.
Thorong Phedi
We start our trek with slow pace to get to Phedi. We still have same amazing view of mountains and landscapes. After an hour walk reaches at Ledar and continues to climb along the east bank of the Jorsang Khola, then descends and crosses the stream on a wooden bridge to get a small tea shop. We stop for wonderful view and tea breaks, we follows a narrow path across a high, unstable slope before heading to Thorong Phedi for the overnight. Phedi, which means ‘foot of the hill’, is a common Nepali name for any settlement at the bottom of a long climb.
Thorong La
Today we have longest and hardest day of the whole trip. We start our walk early in the morning at around 3 AM with packed lunch and the trail becomes steepest initially and reaches at high camp. Walk on your own pace viewing with sunrise and glimpse of the mountains. We continuing walk to the top that takes 3-4 hrs to the Throng top and with a great feeling of victory take a short breaks for picturesque scenery and down to the Mustang part of mountains and the Kaligandaki valley far below to the West. Finally, we made to Muktinath after 7-8 hrs long walk and overnight at lodge.
Recent day, motor road has been extended from Beni to Jomsom under the plan of connecting district HQ by Nepal government so it is not a fun to trek Jomsom Tatopani part. We will drive from Jomsom to tatopani changing jeep twice & travel with local will be unfortable experiences of your trip.
Ghorepani
The trek to Ghorepani takes us past the villages of Ghara and Sikha and their terraced farmlands, through Phalate and Chitre, and through beautiful rhododendron, brich, and magnolia stands. The surrounding peaks look wonderful, almost ominous, as they tower above.
Poonhill
An hour ascent of Poon Hill (3,210m. /10,531ft) early morning takes us to the top to witness a spectacular moment in time: sunrise over the whole Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. Poon Hill is equated with “a photographer’s paradise”. We are reluctant to leave and trek through rhododendron forests to Ulleri and continue downhill trek to Nayaul. Trek Difficulties:
Trekking the Tilicho and Thorong La Pass in Nepal’s Annapurna region is a demanding and thrilling experience. For those who love hiking, this high-altitude trek is a must-do because it combines the breathtaking beauty of Tilicho Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world, with the challenging Thong La Pass.
This trek’s remote and rugged terrain, steep ascents and descents, and high altitudes all contribute to its high difficulty level. Trekkers may find it difficult to breathe in the thin air at elevations above 5,000 meters, so they must properly acclimate to prevent altitude sickness. The unpredictable and severe weather can make the trek even more challenging.
All things considered, this hike is appropriate for seasoned hikers who are mentally and physically prepared for the demanding nature of the expedition. However, for those who are up to the challenge, this trek is a rewarding and unforgettable adventure because of the breathtaking landscapes, distinctive cultural experiences, and sense of accomplishment.
Trekking Permits
Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) is compulsory for trekking in Annapurna which is issued by Nepal government through registered Trekking agencies like ours. Beside TIMS, Annapurna conservation Entry permit is also required to trek in Annapurna because the trekking routes are inside Annapurna conservation Area.
Electricity and Internet:
Electricity and Internet availability during the trek varies depending on the location. Electricity and Internet is readily available in the lodges and teahouses in lower elevations. As you climb on to higher elevations however, electricity availability becomes scarce. The main source of electricity is solar panels here, so be prepared with portable chargers and power banks. Internet connectivity is also scarce in higher altitudes.
Before beginning your trek, think about getting a local SIM card in Kathmandu or Pokhara so you can stay connected. In certain places, these cards can offer limited mobile data connectivity; however, in many remote areas, the signal may be weak or nonexistent.
It’s important to remember that the Annapurna Circuit offers the chance to detach from technology and fully immerse oneself in the natural world, which is why it’s a good idea to enjoy the experience and not rely too heavily on either during your trek.
