Bagmati River along Pashupati

Pashupati, a revered Hindu temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, is known for its ancient tradition of cremation. The Pashupati cremation ghats are located by the holy Bagmati River and are the site of funerals where loved ones say goodbye to their departed ones. The dead are prepared on a bonfire while elaborate rituals and prayers are performed around them. Pashupati is a spiritual and cultural hub for people looking for comfort and a connection with the divine in the face of mortality because of this centuries-old practice that embodies the Hindu belief in the cycle of life, death, and reincarnation.

Here, we will listen to the “Aarati” performed by the priests here. Using oil lamps, the priests move them in a circular manner while performing the Aarati, offering their sacrifice to the Almighty. During the Aarati, devotees sing bhajans, or songs with religious themes, which create a joyful atmosphere.
